What is individual therapy, and how can it help me?

Individual therapy is one-on-one talk therapy where I’ll work with you to explore your personal concerns, develop coping skills, and improve your overall mental well-being. I’ll help you effectively navigate through stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship problems, and more. The approach used and what we discuss during your sessions will depend on your unique needs and your goals.

What types of issues does Jeffrey Farber specialize in treating?

I specialize in treating a wide range of issues, including PTSD, clinical depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and co-occurring substance use disorders. That said, no matter what your problems are, I can help you work through them.

How does the individual therapy process work?

The individual therapy process will begin with an initial meeting with me. During this meeting (or the first few initial meetings), we will determine if we are the right match for each other. I will also gather your history and what brings you to therapy. If we are a good match, your sessions will involve open exploration of your experiences, thoughts, and feelings, learning effective tools and techniques, and receiving homework to work on in between sessions. Your sessions can take place virtually or at your home.

Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?

Absolutely! I want your therapy sessions to be as convenient as possible and fit into your busy schedule.

How long does each therapy session last?

Each session will last 50 minutes to an hour.

Is individual therapy confidential?

Absolutely! Everything you share with me will be completely confidential. When we meet, you can trust that I provide a completely non-judgemental space.

How often should I attend individual therapy sessions?

How often you have individual therapy sessions will depend on your needs. During your initial therapy sessions, we’ll determine how often you should have sessions. They can be daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

What evidence-based approaches are used in individual therapy?

My therapeutic approach is collaborative and supportive. This means the evidence-based approach I use with you during your individual therapy session will depend on your goals. Some of the approaches offered include CBT, DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy.

How do I know if individual therapy is right for me?

If you’re struggling with personal struggles, relationship problems, grief, trauma, or just want to understand yourself better, individual therapy may be right for you. During your initial session with me, we can figure out together whether this is the right option for you.
